Chrome Extension

The Chrome Extension allows users to create ShopLinks from any product page to put into their stories. ShopLinks allow creators to track and monetize their stories. I redesigned an existing extension to update the branding and to add additional usability features.
It was becoming evident that our existing chrome extension was outdated and needed additional features that users were requesting. The existing extension (V1) was built with one purpose in mind – create ShopLinks. While it did that job well enough, we knew that there was more potential.

One primary feature that we wanted to add was the ability to see recently created links. In V1, after you created a ShopLink, it was added to your clipboard automatically and there was no way to retrieve the link if you didn't paste it somewhere before continuing to create more links. This caused a lot of back and forth tab switching for the user. We learned that they wanted to create multiple links at once, then paste them all at the end. The unretrievable and unused links also caused a lot of clutter in our backend.

With the addition of recently created links, we added the ability for users to collaborate with their team. We learned that the person creating ShopLinks was not always the one adding the links into their stories.

Some larger agencies had different brands under their name and a single user might write for multiple brands. This caused an issue with these users because they were constantly signing out and back in to the different brands. We created a solution for these users to have a single sign on and be able to switch accounts within the extension.

We also just wanted the extension to be more friendly to first time users that were completely new to our platform.
The Problem
The Solution
Design from the ground up. Users have two main objectives, Create new links or view previously created Links. When you create a link you can either add to an exiting story or add to a new story. Adding to a new story is now in a much more obvious location with clear input fields. When viewing previously created links – users have the option to copy link, view in dashboard, or open the original URL. They can also filter by who created the link, you or the team for easy collaboration. Switching accounts is also seamless, no more signing out and back in.
Create New Links
When you create a link you can either add to exiting story or add to new story. Selecting the story from a dropdown then taking action with a distinctive [Add to Story] button was much more obvious to the user and less prone to making mistakes. Adding to a new story is now in a much more obvious location with clear input fields.
View Existing Links
Users have the option to copy link, view in dashboard, or open the original URL. They can also filter by who created the link, you or the team for easy collaboration.
Account Switching
Switching accounts is also seamless, no more signing out and back in. This was a major pain point for users with multiple brands.
